Jeanne Rosier Smith studied art at Georgetown
University. After earning her Ph.D. in English
and teaching for ten years, she discovered her love for pastels when an uncle
sent her a set in the mail. “You might enjoy these,” he wrote; he had no idea. She
switched to art fulltime in 2005. Smith is best known for her seascapes and
also works in landscape, still life and portrait.
Jeanne has won top awards including first place in
Pastel Journal magazine’s 2017 Top 100 landscape competition, the IAPS Prix de
Pastel, the Grand Prize in International Artist Magazine’s Seascapes
Competition, and the Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medal Award for Excellence in
She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of
America and the American Society of Marine Artists, an IAPS Master’s Circle
Member, a member of the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club, and Academic
Artists of America. Her work can be viewed in various galleries such as The
Copley Society and Arnold Art in Newport, Rhode Island.
Jeanne also teaches classes and workshops in her
Sudbury, MA studio. In June 2018, she’ll be leading a travel tour to Provence.
