“Light illumines and glorifies the everyday in unexpected ways,
and the magic of that light captivates me.”
-- Jeanne R. Smith

Jeanne Rosier Smith studied art at Georgetown
University. After earning her Ph.D. in English and teaching for ten years, she discovered her love for pastels when an uncle sent her a set in the mail. “You might enjoy these,” he wrote; he had no idea. She switched to art fulltime in 2005. Smith is best known for her seascapes and also works in landscape, still life and portrait.
Jeanne has won top awards including first place in Pastel Journal magazine’s 2017 Top 100 landscape competition, the IAPS Prix de Pastel, the Grand Prize in International Artist Magazine’s Seascapes Competition, and the Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Pastel.
She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the American Society of Marine Artists, an IAPS Master’s Circle Member, a member of the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club, and Academic Artists of America. Her work can be viewed in various galleries such as The Copley Society and Arnold Art in Newport, Rhode Island.
Jeanne also teaches classes and workshops in her Sudbury, MA studio. In June 2018, she’ll be leading a travel tour to Provence.
